The Department of Engineering at Macquarie University conducts research into emerging electronic technologies including wireless communications, networking, VLSI, photonics and antennas. It follows in the footsteps of pioneering wireless research conducted by Prof Neil Weste and Prof. David Skellern (currently adjunct professors of the Department of Electronic Engineering) in late 1990s. Their research into WLAN IEEE 802.11 technology resulted in Macquarie University's most successful IT-related commercial startup, Radiata Communications, which was bought by Cisco Systems for a record $US295 million. In this talk, I will briefly introduce our current research areas, research projects and PhD scholarships in the department. I will also talk about some of the collaboration opportunities in terms of joint PhD supervision program, staff exchange program and joint research on some of the projects including Medical Body Area Networks and Cognitive Radio Networks.
