In this presentation I will begin with a historical and chronological survey of how technology and language learning have been intimately tied since the beginning of the 20th century in the United States. The focus will be on the period beginning after World War II in which I’ll detail how specific technological inventions became associated with specific language learning methodologies and pedagogies. I’ll also focus on the development of the World Wide Web and discuss how the Web 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and soon 4.0 have related or will relate to language learning.
